Sinus Lift & Immediate Implant using the Augma Lift™ Technique
Case Report: Sinus lift and immediate implant placement. The patient is a 70-year-old, nonsmoking female. The treatment plan is the Augma Lift™ protocol when there is more than 4mm of ridge height. A secure sinus lift, immediate grafting and immediate implant placement.
After establishing a fracture diagnosis on tooth 26 (#14), the tooth was extracted and immediate socket grafting was done with Bond Apatite® in order to maintain bone height under the sinus. However, after 5 months of healing the height of the bone is only 4.2 mm. Implant placement requires at least a 10 mm bone height, so the implant surgery must be connected to a sinus lift with graft. It is important to consider the fragility of the Schneider’s membrane.
Proposal: Implant placement will be performed during the sinus lift, according to the Augma Lift™ protocols. The Schneiderian membrane is protected and kept away from instruments and the implant’s threads. Using Augma Bond Apatite® as graft material will ensure full bone growth all around the implant, and a transformation of the biphasic calcium sulfate into true new bone. Augma Lift™ protocol Scenario B is recommended when there is bone height of more than 4 mm. The implant will be stabilized by the first 4.2 mm of sinus bone ridge.
Conclusion: Augma Lift™ protocol is a secure alternative to Summers techniques. Without any contact between instruments or implant and the Schneiderian membrane, it appears that this technique is very secure and significantly reduces the risk of sinus perforation during manipulation (confirmed by Baranes, Zaera and Kuntzmann; 2024).
